About 30,000 participants visited HVAC&R Japan 2012 Expo that was hosted last week by the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association at Tokyo Big Sight.

Several companies displayed their CO2 products for use in CO2 commercial refrigeration systems, including:

Panasonic: In one of the show’s largest booths, Panasonic showcased transcritical CO2 outdoor units, including 2 horsepower (hp) and 10hp units, Japan’s first transcritical system for both low and medium temperature, suitable for supermarkets or convenience stores. The CO2 units allow for 14% annual energy savings for refrigeration and Freezer annual saving of 30% when compared to R404A inverter technology. Even at 32°C ambient temperature, the CO2 units allow efficiency gains of 10%. The company proposes a 20hp solution for supermarkets, and for convenience stores a combination of a 10 hp outdoor unit for refrigeration and a 2 hp unit for freezers.

MAJ / Parker / Temprite: MAJ, a distributor of Parker and Temprite components in Japan displayed Parker/Sporlan CO2 controls for subcritical CO2 and CO2 as a secondary refrigerant.

Refrigera: Refrigera presented H.P. ball valves, including H.P. AISI304.

Saginomiya / Danfoss: Saginomiya, a distributor in Japan of CO2 controls by Europe-based Danfoss, displayed a wide range of electronic valves and controllers for use with CO2 developed by Danfoss, including AKV/ AKVA electronic expansion valves for CO2, ETS electronic expansion valve and ADAP-KOOL electronic automatic controls. Saginomiya also showcased their own range of R744 products for heat pumps and refrigeration, such as their UKV-J electronic expansion valve.

Bitzer: Bitzer showcased their semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors, including model 2MSL-07K for subcritical CO2 commercial refrigeration application and model 4KTC-10K for transcritical CO2.

Carel: Carel presented their EXV-Sistema electronic expansion valve system suitable for use with CO2.

SANDEN: SANDEN displayed their CO2 compressor for vending machines that the Coca-Cola Company will be using. The company emphasised that efficiency of their vending machines has increased by 50% since the 2009 year model thanks to the use of CO2 heat pump technology and LED lighting. They also presented their family of CO2 showcases.

SHIBATA / Bitzer / Alfa Laval / Temprite: For the first time SHIBATA Welding Construction Co presented their piping solutions for CO2 as well a products by Bitzer, Alfa Laval and Temprite. Assessing that CO2 commercial refrigeration is making inroads in Japan, the company also displayed at their stand a hybrid CO2/R134a commercial refrigeration system.

FUJIKOKI: FUJIKOKI presented their line up of CO2 components for commercial refrigeration, such as their FCV valves.
